The Park College of Engineering and Technology was started in 1997 and is situated on the National Highway NH 47 in Kaniyur at 28 km east from the industrial city of Coimbatore in Tamilnadu. Transforming from a Cadet to an Officer is a big leap, which requires not only classroom lectures but more of mentoring and training in Skill development.

Capt. H. Kumar has a sound academic background. He has obtained “A” Grade in the 2nd Mates Orals and 9/10 in the Mates Orals and passed Master’s Orals in the first attempt. He has been a guest lecturer/ visiting faculty at various Maritime Training Institutes since 2005.

The School of Maritime studies (Vels University) is situated at Thalambur, off OMR, Near Navalur, about 12 km from Chennai International and Domestic Airport. While the marine engineering campus is at Thalambur, presently the Nautical training activities are conducted at Pallavaram, about 4 km from Chennai Airport.

Our Maritime educational activities were originally under the names – “Vels Academy of Maritime Education”(VAMET) and Vels Academy of Maritime Studies (VAMS). With the formation of Vels University (under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956) in July 2008, these institutes have fallen under a common identity of “School of Maritime Studies”- Vels University . The Founder Chairman Dr.Ishari K.Ganesh is the President and Chancellor of VELS INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & ADVANCED STUDIES (VISTAS), and is popularly known as Vels University.

The School of Maritime Studies offers the following Maritime Training courses under the DGS (Govt. of India) approval.

The School of Maritime studies boasts of one of the best ship-in-campus- an all steel structure constructed to give the practical work environment of a ship’s machinery room, and having facilities to impart hands-on skill to the marine engineering officer trainees. There is also a touch of class full mission simulator room to give intensive practice to the trainees.In addition, the Academy is fully equipped with mechanical, electrical labs, welding and machine shops, all types of recreational facility for the students.

The Nautical division has a sophisticated State of the Art Bridge simulator, where the deck cadets receive their initiation of their Bridge life, simulating a range of conditions that a ship would face its adventure at sea suffering the vagaries of weather.

All maritime courses confirm to ISO 9001: 2008 system and duly accreditated.

The Univan Maritime Training Academy is equipped with a Full Mission STCW95 compliant Ship handling simulator and an Engine simulator. Bridge Team Management amongst other value added courses shall be run with the aid of simulators.

Various Engine Room Machinery will be installed at the Academy to provide Training of Engineers / Engine ratings for fault finding and practical operations hands on training.

The Training Academy occupies approx. 10,000 sq.ft. of space and is equipped with a very modern auditorium, classrooms and shall be equipped with a Library room with books, marine periodicals, computer based multimedia software and video films.

The Training Academy shall research and develop training courses to meet the changing needs of clients within the marine industry.

Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Pratishthan’s College of Engineering is a tribute to the late Shri Vasantdada Patil, the Sahakar Maharshi and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The college is registered under Societies’ Registration Act, 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. Former deputy Prime Minister Yeshwantrao Chavan laid the foundation of the college.
