Profile of SMC
SEACOM MARINE COLLEGE was established for Research, Experiment, Design and Development purpose in the field of Science and Technologies and to provide education and training in the relevant field. This role is now catering to the Training and certification of STCW’95(Standard of Training Certification and Watch Keeping) mandatory courses, however additional practical oriented sophisticated courses in the field of Electronics & Telecommunications with a specialized emphasize in Information Technology has been adopted for sea farers for on board maintenance of Electronic Equipments . The course is unique for Seacom only in India .
The College has achieved an excellent reputation as provider of quality training. Extensive facilities and highly experienced faculty staff have made it a leading college in India.
As the influence of the college grew, the need for recognition became apparent. Government of India, Ministry of Communications authorized Seacom Marine College to impart training and instructions to students in India. The College started intensive research and experiments for the development of Science & Technologies. To accelerate technological development , The Central Govt. further authorized Seacom Marine College to establish, maintain and work for the purpose of research / experimentation, design / development at Calcutta and also for servicing and maintenance of Electronic Computer based equipments.
The College is an examination centre in eastern India for the award of General Operators Certificate(GMDSS) examination in the Maritime Mobile service and Certificate of Proficiency examination in the Radio Telephony Restricted (Aeromobile service) conducted by Govt. of India, Ministry of Communications and Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India and Second Mate Function course and examination by Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai.
