To cater to the ever-growing requirement of skilled manpower to operate sophisticated ships the Sailors Maritime Academy was established under the aegis of Kandukuri Education and Charitable Trust in 1997.
Located at Vizianagaram, 25kms from the port of Visakhapatnam, the campus is spread over 10 acres land. The modern infrastructure is replete with teaching blocks, hostel, recreation areas and a swimming pool. the facilities are as per the guidelines of the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of surface Transport, Government of India
Right from its inception, SMA has taken steps to obtain the right accreditations, affiliations and approvals to meet the standards required in the global market.
- Approval from the Directorate General of Shipping for pre-sea course training for Nautical/Engineering cadets in the Merchant Navy.
- ISO 9001: 2000 certification awarded by IRQS
The ultimate objective is to become a regional center of excellence in maritime training. The academy relentlessly pursues with up gradation of facilities, course curriculum and teaching methods to stay ahead.
The academy moulds each trainee into a confident cadet ready to discharge the duties of officer. After completing the course, the passing-out cadet is fully prepared to take on duties when they board a ship. Besides the curricular training, the academy takes special care to instill confidence and inculcates a sense of responsibility.
