Profile

The erstwhile National Institute of Port Management was set up as an autonomous organization and registered under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 1975 for the purpose of imparting training for the port personnel. The Institute, has in later years expanded its activities to cover the training needs of merchant navy personnel as well.

Ministry of Shipping, Government of India has recently notified the up-gradation of NIPM into National Maritime Academy in order to fully reflect the present scope of the Institute’s activities and to further enhance the level of its coverage of maritime education and training. Accordingly, the Institute has been renamed as National Maritime Academy with effect from 07/02/2006.

Facilities

The NMA is housed on a 20.25 acre campus comprising of more than 1 lakh square feet built up area and houses modern classrooms, a specialized library, computer centre, audio visual centre, Simulator (ARPA), Physics/Chemistry labs, reprographic unit, hostel, guest house, swimming pool, auditorium, clinic for first aid etc.
