Chidambaram Institute of Maritime Technology (CIMeT) was established in 1997 under the CSC Trust as a dedicated Institution, catering to the training needs of the Maritime Industry.
Our parent company Chidambaram Shipcare Pvt Ltd has been in the Ship repair business since 1978, and was in fact the first Indian Ship repair Company to be certified to the ISO 9002 Quality Standards.
Since 1990 onwards Chidambaram Shipcare has been carrying out Marine Engineer Training with the approval of the Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India.

As new regulations and tighter standards came into force under the STCW 95 ( an international training and certification code) CIMeT was created as a full fledged separate Training Institution.
CIMeT is certified to the ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System and is approved by the Director General of Shipping.

With effect from Nov 2006, the operations of the Institute has shifted to its new campus which is residential and fully self contained.
CIMeT is approved by the Directorate of General Shipping, Government of India as a recognised institution for converting Graduate and Diploma Engineers into Marine Engineers as per the requirements of Directorate of Shipping and confirming to STCW1995 convention.
