INDUS SEAFARERS TRAINING ACADEMY-MARINE TRAINING ACDEMY Indus seafarers training academy (ISTA) formerly called as Indian Seafarers training academy is one of the oldest institution in offering pre-sea training in Merchant Navy. This academy is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India in year 1998. This academy is located in the city of Chennai, with well connected to road, rail and airways at ISTA campus, Manali Saravana raod, Kundrathur main raod, Mangadu, Chennai.ISTA is the first to be approved by Directorate general of shipping, of Its type in India for Merchant Navy pre–sea courses. Keeping pace with the rapid evolution of shipping industry, technological advances, and to produce skilled seaman, the academy is started to construct a marine college at the above address with latest amenities and infrastructure as per the authorities guidelines and imparts quality training . Since its inception, the academy is equipped with adequate infrastructures, audio-visual aids, competitive training and administrative staff members with vast and rich experience in sea line. ISTA is managed by a trust by name CHITTI EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE TRUST who motive is to do service by imparting education /training in various fields. It is one of the prestigious academy for having produced 100 percent excellent results in all the batches . The academy nurtures trainees from all the parts of India – from Himachal pradesh to Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Lakshadweep Islands. The academy maintains a high bonded relationships with the trainees to achieve great success in their life.The trust and the academy is run under the chairmanship of Mr. C H. RAMA RAO,who is from INDIAN NAVY and mariner having a vast experience of more than 20 years in the field of shipping industry. Mr. Rama rao had good analytical skills and a hard worker and a strict disciplinarian. He has intense passion for spreading maritime education in India. He started initially by conduction professional courses for maritime radio Officers training. Capitalizing in his experience in this line, he took the initiative to launching a maritime training academy in year 1998. He is the first man to start rating training after privatization of the Marine education in India. He is totally dedicated in running the academy and to bring up the academy to level of marine college and a new modern maritime college has be under construction to bring all the maritime courses under one roof. The Institute initially started its operations on a rented premises and Now shifted to the present address and functioning at the above address as mentioned before. The institute strictly follows the rules and Guidelines of its approval authorities and gained the confidence in being one of the prime marine college. The institute has so far trained more than 500 students to professional seafarers in various disciplines during these years and gained good experience . Its prime goal is to built a internationally standard marine college with all the modern technologies and amenities. After completion of our project of construction , it is planned to apply for formation of Indian Maritime University. The management is also providing placements to the training qualified seafarers to various ships both foreign going and home trade vessels through its placement cell by name “ ISTA SHIP MANAGEMENT”. It has placed successfully 80% of its qualified seafarers in employment onboard. Some of its ex-trainees are had became officers by passing through various stages and sailing around the world..

Facility at Indus Seafarers Training Academy:

MEDICAL A In-house dispensary is available for medical treatment and First Aid ISTA will take necessary care about any emergencies. At the same time it is not responsible for any personal injury or any disease suffered by any trainee during their stay. Medical Assistance will be provided at the students cost for their treatment. LIBRARY ISTA maintains a Spacious Library with latest Technical Books & Magazines. In addition to a vast collection of books and publications, the latest Merchant Shipping notices and rules, databank of Shipping companies and other marine links are also available. CLASS ROOMS Class Rooms are provided with Black board, White board, T.V, L.C.D Projectors, Overhead Projectors, Safety Video CDs, Instruments, Prototypes. RESIDENTIAL FACILITY Being a fully residential programme, Hostel facilities for the candidates consist of well designed dormitories. Mattresses, pillow covers will be supplied to each cadet on the date of joining for their use during the training. * Note: For Non-Residential course, accommodation can be arranged for outstation candidates, upon request WORKSHOP 1.
